The CHURCH RELATIONS
COMMITTEE develops relationships with churches and encourages
them in support of Habitat's mission. Most churches share with us a
commitment to assist persons who are disadvantaged by poverty, and churches
can provide much of the resource needed for this ministry: volunteer help,
finances, visibility in the community, an enriched sense of Christian mission,
and even help in locating the potential partner families who need our ministry.
The committee initiates
contacts with churches, makes presentations to churches and church groups,
and encourages support of Habitat through the Covenant Church program. Volunteers
with this committee can expect to be in contact with members and leaders
of many churches of our community.
The Church Relations
Committee
The purpose of the Church Relations
Committee is to facilitate the work of the River City Habitat for Humanity by
nurturing the support and commitment of churches to participate in the Habitat
program.
Local churches are the primary source
of support and resource of Habitats program. Churches, guided by the teachings
of Jesus, have long accepted his instruction to love and serve those who are in
need, and housing for low-income persons and families is a vital part of such a
ministry.
Church Relations refers to the process
of establishing and nurturing cooperation and partnerships between River City
Habitat for Humanity and the churches of the Jefferson City area. Church
Relations includes sharing information about Habitat for Humanity, inviting
churches to participate in the Habitat mission, and working with the churches
to initiate, sustain and increase their level of support. We coordinate that
effort under the direction of the Board of Directors.
Our committee would like to have a
representative from every denomination in our county. The Church Relations
Committee seeks individuals who have a good relationship with their church
family and can relate well to individuals from other denominations as well.
