- The FAMILY SELECTION COMMITTEE
finds and selects those families qualified to be "partner families"
and who will become Habitat homeowners. Working through a selection process,
the committee solicits and evaluates written applications, checks credit and
other relevant information about applicant families, and conducts home visits
and interviews with the families.
Though the committee may
wish we could approve many more applications, we do not approve more than
Habitat can serve, given the resources that we have or can acquire. We select
those families who appear best qualified on the basis of the selection
criteria, which guide us in selecting those most likely to be successful as
Habitat homeowners. The Family Selection Committee is an excellent place for
service by a volunteer who enjoys meeting people in the community and who can
be both objective and empathetic in the selection process.
Family Selection
Committee
Job Description
The Committee is responsible for
drafting the selection criteria, reviewing applications and background
information of applicants to determine if they meet the guidelines to
become partner families. This process also includes a home visit/interview
and a committee interview. Applicants must meet three criteria:
1. A need for
adequate housing
2. An ability to pay a mortgage
3. A willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity
If a prospective partner family
meets the criteria, the Family Selection Committee will make a provisional
recommendation to the board of Directors for the family to be approved
as a partner family with Habitat for Humanity.
The Committee meets once monthly
on the first Tuesday at 6:00 PM, at the Habitat office, usually for two
hours. This committee reports its actions to the Board of Directors.
