The BUILDING COMMITTEE is an all volunteer group and is responsible for planning and implementing the building or renovation of houses.  We develop house plans, order building materials, supervise the construction process, and contract for the service of contractors as needed.

The building of a house is the foremost symbol of Habitat's work, and the building committee puts together the tools, the building materials, the paid professional help, and volunteers of all skill levels to get the job done.  The committee is concerned with work schedules, record keeping, and job safety. Persons who have the skill to serve as crew leaders or to coordinate various aspects of construction are very much needed.  Serving on the building committee is a great contribution for a volunteer who has construction skills or who would like to be involved in this part of Habitat's program.

Committee members include:

Curt & Marian Bridges – Chairpersons
Kyle Kittrell – Construction Manager
Bill Aber
Ed Bybee
Tom Carr
Ron Hansen
Bob Sfreddo
Mark Snell
Jim Springs
Lee Standard
James Stark
Harriett Waldo

River City Habitat has regularly scheduled construction days on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8am to 3pm.  Call the office in advance and ask to speak to the Volunteer Coordinator if you’d like to volunteer on the construction site.

(Due to insurance restrictions, River City Habitat maintains that no one under the age of 16 is allowed on the construction site.)

  • On Tuesdays for over 10 years now, a group of volunteer folks, respectfully called the Tuesday Crew, has been getting together to fulfill the mission of Habitat for Humanity in Jefferson City.  This Crew also coordinates the volunteer work to be done on Saturdays.

  • On Saturdays we commonly have groups scheduled from local churches, businesses, and organizations who want to contribute their time in service to Habitat for Humanity.

  • Each construction day there may be Partner Families working along side our volunteers.  Our potential homeowners (Partner Families) are required to work a minimum of 350 hours of sweat equity prior to being sold their home.  This is a wonderful time for our families to express their appreciation for your volunteer efforts in helping them build their home.

Quotes from Partner Families….
From Linda – “I feel like I have accomplished something I never thought I could.  Being a single mom, it is rough.  Habitat made me have faith in humanity again.  It showed me people care.”

From LaTrise – “What I remember most is all the support and people that were willing to help a stranger.  Every Saturday I work, I see these strangers that are now friends, working just as hard as I am.  No one treated me like I was ‘needy’ or not deserving of my own home.”

From Mike and Amanda – “I loved working with Habitat.  What I remember is seeing a home that looked like it needed to be torn down transform into a beautiful home that I am proud to call ours, and that will last for years to come.”
